The Babe in arms is my Mother Doris I. McLeod

MY WITHAM FAMILY CONNECTION

My Mother was born in Monson area of Maine, my Grandfather Fredrick McLeod was a telegraph operator at Sebois Maine. My Grandmother was Elnora Witham, according to her marriage license, was born at Katahdin Iron Works Maine, in 1884. Her Mother was Annie Sibley, b: 1870 her Father Wilson Witham. I have been told that he was an excellent woodsman.

My wife Noreen and I drove through this area a few years ago on our way to Halifax Nova Scotia. We were going to visit our daughter and her family there. I was impressed with the Moose Head Lake area much like the Northern parts of Canada's Western Provinces. Beautiful lakes and country side. I wish I had the information I have now about my family in the region, we would have taken more time there.

When I was renewing my Amercan passport a young man in the "Counsul's" office asked me if I had been to Maine. He said he had been many tines canoeing, I can see why.

Not sure how solid Wilson and Annie's marriage was I have a report that she left Wilson and went to live with her family in Road Island. Annie’s parents have split up by 1880. Annie’s brother, Bryant, is a prison in Bangor. In 1880, Annie is living next door to Wilson.

It seems the information I have is correct, Annie was born in 1868 (or 1867) and married 12 Oct 1881, at age 13 or 14. Wilson was about 15 years her senior. I wonder if she was pregnant when they were married. I was trying to make sense out of her death record, Annie Sibley, in 1893 in Rhode Island, since Wilson lived in Maine. I see Annie’s mother, Lucinda, married Charles Sanford in 1889. They were living in Rhode Island in 1900. I’m guessing Annie left Wilson and moved to Rhode Island to live with her mother and brothers. It’s interesting the death record says “Sibley”, probably some dislike to “Witham”. She certainly died at a young age.

This photo of a Sibley Family was sent to me by my cousin George Witham doesn't look as if Annie is in it or if this is indeed her family. However the girl on the right has a strong resemblance to my Aunt Joyce who was Elnora's daughter as was my Mother.
